Film description:
In 1865 a company, which started the construction of the first Transcontinental Railroad hires experts in various fields in order to accomplish its grandiose plan. Builders, land surveyors, company’s office workers, service employees – all these people are now separated from their homes, forced to live in a mobile camp which they named "Hell on Wheels". Very soon numerous merchants, money-lenders, prostitutes and smugglers come to join the camp in search of profit, turning the "Hell on Wheels" into a transit point and sinecure. The camp residents have already seen some of these people’s faces on the “wanted” posters. That’s why nobody is surprised when another stranger comes to the township. Cullen Bohannon – a former Confederation soldier, Civil war veteran, whose wife and little son were cruelly tortured and killed by the Union soldiers. Ever since then revenge has become the purpose of his life – he’s been searching for the murderers in vain for a long time. His pursuit eventually leads him to Nebraska, to the "Hell on Wheels"…
