This modern version of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale is charming. Ratso is a streetwise chancer of a rat whose theatre show is struggling. Then he finds an egg that hatches a mutant swan. The Ugly Duckling and Me! is a 2006 animated film which won an award at the China International Cartoon and Digital Art Festival. Intended for a family audience, it is a modern adaptation of The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen. It was directed by Michael Hegner and Karsten Kiilerich. The Yorkshire Post described it as a "feel good" film for family audiences. The film is based on a television series of the same name. The series chronicles the adventures of a swan named Ugly and his adoptive father, a rat named Ratso.
